A Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) is a planning document created by the local community, for the local community.

It isn’t just about deciding where new houses should go. A NDP sets out a shared vision for how Hullavington should develop over the next 17 years (2026-2042), helping to shape a wide range of issues that matter to residents.

These can include:

• where new homes should be located
• the type and design of new housing
• protecting important green spaces
• enhancing nature and biodiversity
• improving walking, cycling and riding routes
• supporting local businesses and community facilities
• preserving the character and identity of the village.

Once an NDP has been independently examined and approved by local residents through a referendum, it becomes part of the statutory planning framework. Wiltshire Council must then take it into account when deciding planning applications in Hullavington.

Perhaps the simplest way to think about it is this:

Without an up-to-date NDP, many important decisions about Hullavington’s future will still be made, but with much less influence from our community. An up-to-date NDP gives local people a much stronger voice in shaping how the village develops.
