Hullavington is home to a vibrant and caring community, where local groups and volunteers work together to make a positive difference. This page brings together updates from across the village — from environmental projects and local services to ways you can get involved and support community life. Whether you’re looking to join a group, attend an event, or simply learn more about what’s happening, this is the place to start.
A few of our current projects and Groups:
Neighbourhood Development Plan 2026
Wiltshire’s housing targets are set to increase by 84%.
- Unless Hullavington has a Neighbourhood Development Plan, we will have no real control over:
- How many houses are built here
- Where they are built
With a refreshed Development Plan, however, we as a community can secure facilities that matter most to residents (e.g. footpaths, sports facilities, safer roads, open space). We can shape where new development takes place. We can protect the character of our village

Saving Our Parish Footpaths – Definitive Map Project
Would you like to help save our footpaths?
- The purpose of this project is to ensure that all footpaths in our parish are properly documented. It is only by checking and then if necessary, researching and authenticating them properly, that they will be saved for future use.
- If you find history fascinating enjoy finding out little known facts, this will be right up your street. We are exceedingly lucky because the County Archives are in Chippenham which makes the researching much easier and far more fun.
- We are looking for locals who would like to take this forwards. If you are interested, please contact Sarah Price-Tompkins – sarah.pricetompkins@hullavington-pc.gov.uk
And we’d love to get this project off the ground!
Hullavington Oil Purchasing Scheme (HOPS)
The Hullavington Oil Purchasing Scheme — known locally as HOPS — is a community-led initiative that helps residents save money on domestic heating oil through collective ordering. Run entirely by volunteers, HOPS brings households together to negotiate better prices, reduce delivery traffic in the village, and support a more environmentally friendly way to heat our homes.

“Save our Pub”
We have been on a mission to save Hullavington’s last pub for over a year now and whilst originally our aim was to have a community owned pub, café, and restaurant, the recent changes within Government meant funding was not available. The good news though, is that the owner is moving forward with the renovations meaning the village can look forward to the future when we once again have ‘a place to go’.
The Hullavington Community Benefit Society Limited, continues to keep up to date with progress, and by liaising with the owner, we can update you. Read on to find out more, including how you may be able to help.
Discover Our Village’s Unique Bus Stop Library!
A few years ago, a fantastic idea sprung up within our village: transforming the bus shelter next to the old Queens Head pub into a charming community lending library. This unique spot is now a successful and much-loved feature of Hullavington life, providing free reading material for residents of all ages!
As the attached photos demonstrate, we offer an impressive array of books and magazines—perfect for borrowing to read at home, enjoying while waiting for a bus, or simply popping in to escape a sudden shower.
The process is simple: just borrow a book to take home, enjoy it, and return it to the shelf when you’re finished—no cards or due dates required!.

Keeping the Shelves Stocked
The success of the library is down to our dedicated team of local volunteers who work hard to keep the space clean, tidy, and its contents in good order. They ensure a delightful selection of good-quality literature is always available, including our wonderful newsletter.
If the stock levels look a little low, we warmly welcome your donations of suitable books and magazines in good condition. We would also love to welcome any new helpers who want to get involved! If you have an hour or two to spare occasionally to help with tidying and sorting, please contact mcdougal.graham@gmail.com
